I've owned my Smart Car since June of 2008. It's gray with black trim - and it's a convertible!!!
I'm still getting used to it, but I've had only minor problems with it - that is until a few weeks ago....
One morning I tried to start it up and the battery was dead. It had been in a heated garage, and I probably hadn't driven it for a day or 2. I called SMART USA and they dispatched a mechanic. This guy had never seen a Smart Car, but between the 2 of us, we managed to find the… Continue

I reserved my smart on June 1, 2008. Today, I finally got an answer from the "Delivery Date Estimator"........September 2010 to November 2010!!! Two and a half years! By then the 2011 models will be out! I guess there are pluses and minuses though. With each passing year improvements will be made. With each passing year prices will go up. In the meantime, I will continue driving my gas-guzzler, waiting patiently for my smart.

JD Power sent me a questionnaire (and a dollar for filling it out!!) about my smart. The only real complaint I could come up with was the sun visors don't really do the job, as they are so small, and the wind screen so big. I'm not a sun lover, and hate the glare. Has anyone ever had car windows tinted? I don't mean the bumpy adhesive tinting material I sometimes see in cars, but I guess it's some sort of coating? Is it expensive, is it a lengthy process, and most importantly, does it work?… Continue

I’ve seen a few posts by folks either suggesting that the Smart’s heater wasn’t up to the task or expressing concern that it wouldn’t be. We’ve now had some single digit temperatures here in the Chicagoland area, and I can report that I’ve had no problems getting the Smart’s interior warm and fuzzy in relatively short order. I have to admit that the average Mercedes can heat up its passengers faster (I used to kid that I rented out my CLK to glass blowers and blacksmiths on weekends for extra… Continue

I was excited
to be part of the Smart Reservation Program
. I was glad I was doing my part to save money, and gas. This was a great way to do this , have fun and own a very CUTE car and my daughter was very excited.
In light of the poor economy, loss of business revenue and renters because they have lost their jobs I will be pulling out of the program. I use to criticize those that were canceling because, your going to wait wether your on a list or off a list. But I… Continue

I got on the waiting list in March 2008. I was totally impressed with the Smart Car insurance rating and with the price of gas flying through the roof, loved its mileage. In September, received my notification that it was time to personalize my SMARTIE. I went with an all black eterior, red interior cabriolet. Received notification Nov. 24th that my car will be at my delership in Virginia Beach within the next 30 days. Now here is my dilemma: I am a speed freak, I currently drive a truck the… Continue

I got my ETA and VIN # today. Is there any way to track the shipment from the factory to the dealer on the Internet? Thanks. Frank-TN

I meant to post last week, but with the (then) upcoming nuptials, everything else went out the window! Now that the wedding is over (and yes, you do hear a little relief in my voice) I have time for other things in my life. I have a couple of things to cover, so bear with me:
1. I LOVE MY CAR!!! I love it. I get goofy when I see it in the driveway, or tucked inside an enormous parking space at the mall. I love that my husband (husband!!) and I are sitting side-by-side wherever we go. I… Continue

Last February I was lucky enough to get an orphan. It was a great car. But then I was notified that the one I ordered with heated leather seats was comming, I couldn't resist. I've never done anything so crazy, buy two cars in one year. The 2009 is just as good as the original, and the warm seats are nice. Now I have a new Smart. Yes the transmission is smoother, and it doesn't beep when I lock it.
There is a hardly used Blue Smart in Seattle for someone that can't wait. Please give… Continue

Hey, I have another update for you guys, and though my faith is strong, the outlook is not so good. My wife and I have have been looking at houses casually (except when our lease is about to expire, then its a mad dash) and we found one we really liked. They ran our credit and said it was about 40 pts below what they want:580. That means for what ever reason, or credit has not improved. In fact it might have gone down a bit, but at lest not much. I dont know why, or what would have caused this… Continue

If you live anywhere in snow country, you may have been asking the same question I have been... “do I really need to plunk down more hard-earned cash for snow tires?” I know I’ve been anxious to feel my own Smart (with only the standard issue Continental tires) on snow before I would be able to say with confidence that I was comfortable with its handling.
Well my Chicago suburb provided the perfect proving ground this morning. We got 3 or 4 inches of icy snow overnight, so before… Continue
