Last night, a little after ten, as we were about to get ready for bed, we heard the Smart alarm go off in the garage. I had left the top down and the windows down. The roof rails were still in place. I had locked the car when we left it that way earlier in the day. My husband went into the garage to see if anything or anybody was disturbing the car. He couldn't find anything wrong. He came back into the house and a few minutes later, it sounded again. This time I unlocked the car, thinking that… Continue

My husband and I rode through the lot of Smart of Cary, NC yesterday because they had let me know that they had a lot of Smarts for sale. What a treat to see so many Smarts -- all colors and styles waiting for new owners. They had a great selection. If anyone is tired of waiting, or if anyone is considering buying a Smart, Cary, NC is the place to go!!!

Hello all! My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay in London, England. We saw so many Smart cars there. On the way to Heathrow Airport this morning from our hotel located just behind Buckingham Palace, I counted 14 Smart cars on the road!!!! So glad they've made it to the States. Also saw a car even smaller than a Smart. It's called a (and I'm not making this up) Gee Whiz -- it's electric and narrower than a Smart. Must be awful crowded when two people are riding!!

Last Tuesday night it snowed in Raleigh, NC. On Wednesday and Thursday, it didn't get out of the 30's and the nighttime lows were in the teens. Finally on Friday it warmed up into the low 50's. Yesterday (Saturday) it was in the upper 60's. I put the top back on my rally red/silver cabrio to go to the grocery store. Didn't bother to take the roof rails off.
Today, it got into the lower 70's. My husband and I took the rails off and just spent 2 hours riding around town. Wow, I'm ready… Continue

We are recovering from a six inch snow fall with temperatures just warm enough following to melt snow on roads and create black ice. This morning, I drove my new Smart with foglamps for the first time since the snow. It was still mostly dark when I left for work, and I used my foglamps to help illuminate the road. Very, very helpful in seeing the ice.
I highly recommend the foglamps, especially if you have bad roads to travel in "iffy" conditions and poor light.

I got home about 45 minutes ago in my new Smart Cabriolet!!!! My delivery date was tentatively February 14, but my dealer, Cherie, at Smart Center, Cary, NC, called this morning and said that they had just received an orphan that was configured just like mine with the addition of foglamps and the alarm. I went out to check it out and to try to work out a trade on my Smart orphan that I bought in late August to "tide me over" until mine came in.
Well, I arrived at the Smart Center… Continue

In August I was told by the Smart dealership in Winston-Salem, NC that you had to buy your new SMART in your own sales district. The only way he could sell me a Smart was because he had a Used orphan on the lot.
It seems now that many Smart dealerships are getting cars on their lots for sale so that people don't have to wait anymore. I'm surprised by the people who drove 2 1/2 hours to get a Smart -- which seemed to be outside of their sales area.
Can anyone give any… Continue

Fortunately, I am enjoying driving my Orphan Passion Coupe, but I am so looking forward to getting my cabriolet!
Can anyone tell me how long a wait I should expect now that I've configured? My DDE says March 09 to May 09. What are others of you experiencing?
My blue with black trim will be back in "orphan status" when my new one arrives.

I've had my Smart orphan for about four weeks. I notice that when I am going up a steep hill, I hear quite a bit of engine noise. I'm wondering if this is normal.
Also, a coworker was in the parking lot when I drove in recently. He said that it sounded like there was a loud rattle in the back. On another day, he said my engine sounded like the moped he had as a kid. Since I don't know what's normal for this car, I don't know if I should be alarmed and headed to the dealer to have… Continue

I would love to check and see how far up the list my reservation number is. Does anyone know where to go to check that out?

Good news for anyone living in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area who wants a Smart Car ASAP. Have noticed a red Passion model for sale on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh at Fast Cash Cars. It's across Glenwood Avenue from Fred Anderson Toyota. Also, about a half mile from there on Lumley road is a new place called Cabriolet Motors. It's in a renovated restaurant on the corner of Lumley and Glenwood Avenue. They have two Smarts in their showroom. I'd be driving the red Smart from Fast Cash had I not found… Continue

Well, I'm on the waiting list and my delivery date is scheduled for over a year from now. My husband and I went to see his mother yesterday, out of town, and there happened to be a Smart dealership near her house. So, on the way, we stopped to see if they had any orphans. The salesman explained to me that they are unable to sell cars to people who live outside of their sales area. There was an exception, though. They could sell used orphans, and they happened to have one on the lot! A man had… Continue
