Important for the life of your tires and mileage...

I got my smart in the middle of August and I am very satisfied with everything about the car. Not one negative experience with it, and it continues to offer surprises. I have consistently gotten better mileage than it is rated at, and the higher the octane I put in the better it gets.

Starting a week ago, my tire pressure warning started to come on for the first few blocks on my way to work in the morning as the temperatures have been falling to frost point and below. After a few… Continue

Wow! What a difference, I think I will crack 50mpg and what fun!!!

My smart has been averaging 41 to 45 mpg since I got it in August. Not that it is all that important to me anymore, I am totally sold on my smart for a multitude of reasons. I am now about to hit 3,000 miles, and the price of gas is starting to come down. From the beginning I have been filling it with 91 Octane, which is the highest our local Speedway stations carry.

Lately, a Sunoco station next to the office complex where I work has been posting much lower gas prices than the ones… Continue

Life at ground zero for economic pain and auto industry greif...

My most frequent question being in a large college and auto making town has been "Where did or do you get that?" My funniest answer was "Out of a vending machine at the mall." I always give the web address too.

Second would be what mileage I am getting. My most interesting answer

was a short discussion with a man driving his worn out Geo convertible. I told him my mileage probably wasn't quite as good as his, he gets 50-60 in the Geo and I used to own one of those too. However,… Continue

My first holiday tour in my smart...

Wow!!! I went 916 miles and only put in 37 dollars of gas in during the trip. I was able to go home, visit all of my friends and travel to all the places I haven't been to in years. I admit, my father put in three gallons for me when I let his wife drive with him for about an hour one morning. When I got home I filled it back up for another 30 dollars and after figuring it all out, it costs under 8 cents a mile to operate, it rode wonderful, up those long winding roads that most cars can't… Continue

Interesting lesson while breaking it in...

I took a day trip to the west coast today. After filling up for the first time at an amazing $32.74 for 8.3 gallons of 92 octane, I plotted my TomTom to take me to Saugatuk by freeway, 94 miles one way. I did my freeway with a fair amount of ease, it took a bit of adjustment to get used to the wind and the gawking maneuvers of some of the other vehicles, but it was pure joy. I got to the park just in time to get some pictures of the lake as it started to sprinkle, and when I got back to the car… Continue

Power Steering

I purchased the comfort package with my smart and therefor got the power steering. I really love it. It disables itself at high speed so it is only really noticeable when I maneuver in tight areas, which really helps in some of those tiny, odd parking spots close to curbs.

Fun with the first tank.

This week has been a lot of fun for a lot of people. Some business contacts have been coming in to the office that I haven't seen in a long time, so I am giving test drives before they have their meetings. I am also posting my first photo today. The stuffed toy is a thing we all did when the Aztek was new, and mine still matches the car. I worked at a Goodwill and the retail staff gave me the toy which is supposed to be a baby eagle.

I actually had a woman chase me down yesterday… Continue

My one word is "shocking"

Now that I finally have my smart, I have to use the word shocking as my description for it in one word. Everything about it is a surprise that just doesn't go away for a long time. I had to drive through the campus of Michigan State on my way home yesterday, just as all the students are arriving into town. Yes, I had to stop at a crosswalk in the front row, and a group of students were crossing the street, and yes, one of them was grinning from ear to ear and staring and staring until he walked… Continue

At LAST!!!!!

I just got the call from my dealer and my yellow black is here!!!! He told me that they got eight on the delivery and seven of them are yellow. The downer is that because of the Dream Cruise in Detroit this weekend, I will not be able to pick it up until Monday. Oh well, there is a lot of relief for me just finally having it get here. I really don't want them to rush through getting it ready, nor do I want to pick it up in the middle of a mad house atmosphere. Monday will be my day! I will now… Continue

By the way, where is the gas tank?

Just wondering where they put the gas tank. I know where the battery is, and the engine... and where you put the gas in, but where does the 8.7 gallons get stored?

Thanks to anyone who knows.
