So the Houston Club decided they wanted to try an "Invade a small town day" and I decided on a town that also had a festival as well to add to the things we could do. Our first out of town trip had 4 smarties show up with a total of 9 people.
We met at Sam'd deli diner out on Pin Oak Rd and I-10 to caravan to Halletsville, TX. Started at 6:00 am to meet up at 7:00 and headed out around 7:30 ish.…

Well, I may be entering middle age faster than previously thought, I forgot to post a blog about the August Meet & Greet for our club. Thanks for the reminder Gus. OK so we thought we would try some form of activity included with our beer and food to prevent us from becoming the most obese club at Smart USA Insider, so I chose bowling. It is relatively physical, inside from the heat (very important in Texas), and they serve beer!
We started by meeting up at the Captain… Continue

So the event turn out to be a small one for a whole host of reasons but still it was fun. We met up at the brewery around 11:00am but for me it was more like 11:30 due to the I-10 road construction. 3 smarties showed up and unbeknownst to us, a fourth and new member who was attending for the first time. Sorry about that, but we got your note and we will contact you by email.
St. Arnold's opens at 11:00 but the tours begin at 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm. Many people brought lunch,… Continue

Wow, I'm gonna be the first to blog about our trip? I can see many people have beaten me to the photos so I will limit mine to the ones I didn't see already posted.
Well our decision to go was a rather hasty one as we couldn't get the work schedules straight till the last minute. The Monday before the event we were finally able to get time off, so I sent off our registration and booked our hotel. We packed our bag and left Thursday evening around 8:30 pm and stayed in Dallas… Continue

It was a dark and foggy night. I just got in my car to go home from my sister-in-law's house. Two stop signs away, there was an open field where the high powered electrical lines ran through the neighborhood; the fog seemed thicker than pea soup on a frozen lake there. From that second stop sign, it couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 houses to reach the field but I managed to get the car up to a cool 30 mph.
Out of the corner of my eye, a flash of white fur comes dashing out… Continue

OK this blog is not so much a real blog as it is a warning to you Smart car owners. I went to class one day in mid November with approzimately 1 gallon of gas in the tank. Since the gauge had not yet changed over to the 0.9 gallon mark yet, I knew I had enough gas to get to work and fill up on the way home.
Fast forward through class.
On the way home, I forget that I was supposed to buy gas. So being the lucky guy I am I make it home without incident and pull into the… Continue

Well, our first attempt at making a convoy to the Food Drive didn't turn out like I imagined, but it happened despite all the crazy things that were thrown at us.
ABC 13 didn't post any information on the event till the Monday before the event and then changed the location of the drop off point. Mother Nature decided to give us snow on the day of the event; which looked incredible but didn't help traffic conditions very much. Then our meet up before the event didn't happen as it was… Continue

This August the Houston Smart Car Club decided to caravan down to Galveston as many of us have not been there since hurricane Ike. We met up and two locations starting 10:30 and 11:00 in the morning for a quick head count, then a Smart run down to Galveston. We made a lot of people stare and smile and a few of them even took pictures.
In Galveston we met up at a resturant and tiki bar named The Spot. This was a nice all around place with burgers and shakes, beer and margaritas, and… Continue

Everyone, save yourselves the $8 bucks it costs to buy the "works" carwash at the gas pump. The Smart is narrow so the rocker sprayers for the rims are a bit far away and don't do a good job of cleaning. Then the parking sensor for the wash is the driver's side front tire, so the car is normal to the front and left side spray but far from the right and rear side sprays. The blow dryer worked os expected, but what good is it if the car is still dirty? Well, at least it got the bird poop off the… Continue

Well, I may be slow but you can't ever say I didn't do what I said I would. Finally found the pictures of my smart the night we brought it home. Better late than never.
They will let just about anybody drive one of these cars, won't they?

Our anniversary party is done with one photo to go! The day started out very nice with a little breeze and a little sun, a little donut and a little fun.
A very nice turn out considering the weather man predicted rain. Unfortunately the weather man was correct and the rain came down in sheets, cancelling our group picture in front of city hall.…

Houston had their February meet (A few weeks ago, oops!) at SRO Sports Bar at Northwest Mall. We are slowly increasing our numbers as we had 20-30 people and roughly 18 cars show up. Fun stuff looking at all of our cars and mods and all topped off with a nice lunch together.
March will be of course everyone's 1st anniversary celebration! If you haven’t been notified of the event, please go to the events page or click on the link… Continue

OK, after waiting a considerable amount of time (11 months) my smart is here! Love the car, I can stand at the front of the car and actually hug it as my arm span is wider than the car. The leather package and even the heated seats got it's first and only workout when the temps dropped this week, but I could only stand the heat for about 10 minutes and had to shut it off. The morning dew got on my windshield and I was surprised that the wipers move… Continue

Well, the first meet and greet for 2009 has been completed! We had 11 Smarts show up with a total of about 19 people for a nice viewing of our cars and lunch at Chuy's. For those of you that do not know Chuy's, it is a local Tex-Mex restaurant that serves up hot salsa and a creamy jalapeno dip that is one of my favorites. (If you are really health conscientious, try the Elvis chicken fried chicken. A chicken breast battered in potato chips and deep fried! Mmmm!)
We are a motley crew… Continue
