Those fold up cardboard window covers...Does everybody know what I'm talking about? It was a horrid 96* here today, and inside my car had to be 120*. The steering wheel was burning hot. I want to get some sort of shield to put up on the inside of the window, but wonder if the usual ones that other cars use would work in our smarts? Does anyone have one that works, or know of a special one just for smarts? It looks like it's going to be a nasty hot summer.

So I'm sitting here watching my little car disappear under more than a foot of snow, with no end in sight. They say there's another foot possible, and for once, they seem to be right. Who else has 1000 things to do today, but can't get out of the driveway? I don't think we're going to that Christmas party tonight. I've posted a couple of photos of Sonic in the snow on my page, taken a few hours apart. I'll try to add more as this continues.

My smart and I recently celebrated our 1st year together. Today I got an anniversary card in the mail from smart. It's on very nice, sturdy recycled card stock, suitable for framing...except the smart depicted on the card is red and black, and mine is blue and black! I really love all these little touches...

The last few days when I have started my car I have noticed a little blinking wrench in the display area, and a negative number. For a couple of days it was - 3, then yesterday was -6. It's always been only when I start the car and when it's in reverse until this morning, when it was visible in drive, and this morning there was no number at all.
The manual says the wrench and number indicate when service is due, but I had it in just about a week ago. I should hope… Continue

Yesterday I took my little car in for service. I had a few small issues, nothing extreme. My tire light wouldn't go off for a few days; the parking brake, which I had replaced a few months ago, wasn't holding the car, and was discovered to need adjustment; often I remove the key and it beeps a warning, even though lights and wipers and such are off; and on occasion, it bucks like a little bronco, for no reason. They fixed the brake and tire pressure, and noted the beeping problem, which smart… Continue

I seem to have a lot of questions lately! Thanks to all who responded about my rolling grocery problem. This is something else entirely!
Yesterday I was asked by a research group to participate in a 2 part smart car owner survey. Part one is an online survey, and part two is an in-home "interview". Part 2 would take about 2 hours, and be videotaped. Their perception of my "lifestyle" and "attitude" would be relevant to the survey. I'm not a bit crazy about the videotaping, and told… Continue

Every time I put groceries or items in the back of my car, they slide around and fall behind my seat. The passenger seat is pushed all the way back (tall leggy husband) and that helps on that side, but my seat has a gap where all things drop. I want to get some sort of net restraint or something to keep items from moving around. Anyone else with this problem who has solved it? Any idea where I might find something for the smart? Thanks in advance.

I've had my smart since September 2008. Lately - maybe the last month or so - it has occasionally stalled out when I go over a bump. It can be just a dip in the road, a speed bump, or a pothole. Never a big bump, and never at a high speed - so far. Often it's when I'm turning a corner. The car just stops dead. It'll happen a couple of times, then not again for a while, then it'll happen again. Last week we had beastly heat, and it happened 3 times in one day. I thought, maybe it's the AC, which… Continue

In the time I've had my smart, I've seen a couple of them around. Yesterday, I saw 3 in less than an hour, aside from my own! As I parked at the Falls Church Home Depot, another smart owner pulled up beside me, on his way out, just to say hi and chat about our smarts. He had a blue/silver. On my way home from Home Depot, a different blue/silver one came up on my left. Then I saw a white/silver one parked. Hi to everybody, if you're on this site!

Sonic is 3 months old today, and had to go in for service. Yesterday when I parked, the parking brake wouldn't engage - just flopped limply. I called the dealer, and arranged to take it in today. I was told no one had ever heard of this particular thing happening. They ended up having to order a part, and I'll have to take it back in a week or so. Luckily they can fix it while I wait.
I also had the gear shift lubed while I had it there, as several here had advised doing as a… Continue

You know those speed monitoring signs sometimes randomly placed along the road that flash your current speed as you drive by? I have been trying to check my speedometer accuracy using one, only it doesn't seem to "see" my car. Has anyone else noticed the sign go blank when your smart approaches?

JD Power sent me a questionnaire (and a dollar for filling it out!!) about my smart. The only real complaint I could come up with was the sun visors don't really do the job, as they are so small, and the wind screen so big. I'm not a sun lover, and hate the glare. Has anyone ever had car windows tinted? I don't mean the bumpy adhesive tinting material I sometimes see in cars, but I guess it's some sort of coating? Is it expensive, is it a lengthy process, and most importantly, does it work?… Continue
