Warning for all smart owners....You must read this

I am a 2009 Smart owner. This has been the worst purchase in my entire life. Here is why:
1) Golf cart on the Freeway, Very uncomfortable, Bad back already..
2) Compromise for only few miles per gallon, cost is high
3) No special financing like Toyota and Nissan incentives..
4) Premium Gas, High Financing by Benz, Savings are smaller and smaller
5) cannot pick up friends, any time of niece for a ball game ( only two..)
6) you will look like a Dork, every one will laugh at you

and finally, I listed it 5 K below my purchase price, No one wants this piece of ####
So, dont wast you time, cancel your reservations...

THIS IS RATED WORST CAR BY YAHOO... TRUST ME, VERY VERY UNCOMFORTABLE...

Cars.com did a good hatchet job on a bunch of easy targets. All the cars on that list were already canceled, or in the Smarts case, an easy target. The Smart doesn't look like the others, it stands out in a crowd. You had to know that before you got yours. I fell in love with them the first time I saw one and it hasn't faded since we purchased one. We love the looks! I've had worse rides in more expensive cars!! I do feel for you Rob, but I think you picked an argument here. Hope you get a good resolution to your situation, but Smart owners are proving to be a wily bunch! Don't tread on us!

gee rob your profile says how fun is is to drive and great gas mileage!! i have driven my car on long rides as far as toronto from nyc. and i find it comfortable it's a great ergonomic seat. you might have to look up that big word. people may be laughing at you, i know i am.but that's another story. this car makes people smile. it is fine on the highways and although i'd love to get 50 mpg i'll take the 38 to 41 i get. oh yeah can only seat two people. duh it's called the smart for two as in two seats. let me ask you did you look at the car before you bought it? and again as you say YOU may look like a dork but believe me it's not the car. the rest of us look really cool and very happy. it is apparent that something else is going on for you to put a blog on like this. did you maybe get a job selling toyota"s lol. the only pain i get is in my neck when i see a childish blog like this. it seems you have too much time on your hands. maybe you need a hobby to take up some of your time. have you tried fishing

Hey Rob just did my own search on Auto Trader .Com, no Smarts for 10995. Least expensive was an 08 for 11999. Your not fibbing are you, come on, what brand do you sell?
The link please, where's the link to your ad?

I own a 09 smart. I absolutely love it. It gets great gas mileage (46.9 mpg this past weekend). I also own an Expedition (14 mpg on a good day), a Subaru and a Mustang GT. I have no back problems, drive it on the Interstate every day, take it on trips and if my wife would let me I would have another one. My looks don't change when I get in the car so I've got news for you... If you look like a dork in the car... You won't find any sympathy on this list. We love our smarts!

Forest: You are right, and this caused a little stir at SCOA too.

To Rob: Really the bottom line is that you should've researched the car more before your purchase. I mean things like "I can't carry my friends" is something obvious that you should've noticed before you bought the vehicle. And everything else could've been resolved with proper research and maybe several test drives.

Like for example: MPG. You might not be hitting those Prius rivaling numbers right now but add on some miles, smiles, and maintenance and your smart should surely pay you back!

Gee Rob you sure have problems. How about a link to your add on Auto Trader.
When I bought my Smart I was pretty sure it would be for just two people, and you know I was right. My wife and I currently have 6 cars and 2 motorcycles licenced and insured, and the Smart is the second easiest go get in and out of. We find it quite comfortable, but then I am only 6' 3" and my wife is a shrimpy 5' 10". The Smart does lots and lots of things well, its not a 9 passenger van, or a monster truck, but you know that.
A link to your for sale ad please.

Just one more voice... I have had my smart for sixteen months now. I live in the Chicago area, and drive it for both business and pleasure. I am 6', 250 lbs, no small package of a guy, and find the car one of the most comfortable I have driven. On the highway, it does take getting some used to, but I have driven it on freeways now in four states without a problem. Rob, I am sorry it is not the right car for you, and you are certainly entitled to your views and opinions, but if you feel it isn't right for people to come down on you for yours, it is probably equally unfair to lump your dissatisfaction into a letter that slams the vehicle so many of us like, warning others that it is unworthy of purchase. I agree you shouldn't have the car if it causes you such unhappiness, and I am sorry that you haven't been able to sell it. But let's be clear, the car is popular enough that it has a substantial waiting list. If it were such a pile of ####, why do you suppose people wait to buy one? Surely, not everyone who is on that waiting list is going to be disappointed. Count me among many very happy owners.

Rob,

It sounds like you did an impulse buy and now unhappy with the results. If your that unhappy then take the hit and dump the car. I spent two years looking into the smart brand before I made my purchase. The smart car is a great fit for me and I'm very happy with my purchase. Maybe this is a life lesson for you, do your research before you buy the next car. Good luck!
