I'm glad to see that cruise control is finally being offered as a factory installed option on the fortwo. I just wish it had been available when my car was built (it's a 2009). Wondering if aftermarket units are likely to come down in price considering the factory unit is only $280 and includes a trip computer. I drove a 2011 with the cruise and it works great.

Thanks for the comeback.  I am Virginia and I will try the dealer.

You can order the area451 cruise control here: http://www.smartieparts.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&a...

Since it retails for $480 (plus shipping), getting one installed at a dealer for $400 is a real deal!

Where did you order the Area 451 Cruise Control?

Dave G. ,

I just had an aftermarket Cruise Control installed in my 2010 smart passion at the Mercedes
dealer in San Antonio Texas, which as you probably already know has taken Smart
distribution back from Penske. They installed the Area 451 Cruise Control for
me. They made me a special deal and the cost was around $400.00 installed. I
would highly recommend that you have it installed at the dealer by a professional

After owning my 2009 Smart Car for a year, I have finally started to use the wheel paddles for shifting.  Now I use them all the time except in parking lots.  Before I used to just press the gas and go.  Using the shifters helped me learn how the car shifts.  Before with press the gas and go I average 35 to 36 mpg.  Now after 4 tanks using the pads it been 40 mpg.

I plan on the after market cruise control.  Would not consider the factory cruise, even if it was cheaper.  With labor? The after market will most likely still be cheaper.

It's certainly a good price and the trip computer is a nice bonus; the only downside is having to give up the steering wheel paddles if you get the factory cruise control.
