Hi, my service light came on even though its not time for service. With older smarts there used to be a key combination to reset. I have a 2008 convertible and dont feel like driving back to the SMart Center (1h drive one way)

thanks for any help provided

I tried the method Bob & Jan posted. On step 2, you have to double tap the left button SUPER FAST before the wrench begins to flash. Once you get that down the rest works. I FINALLY DID IT MYSELF!

There are 2 different methods to reset the service indicator. one ethod outlined, the other is to not release the button on the second tap and to turn the key off, then on.  It all has to do with the timing of the sequence. If you do not get it to work, there is a wait time  (not sure how long) the system does not allow you to try anymore until that time expires. It is best to walk away and try again later.

This worked for me.

Resetting The Blinking Wrench

On The smart fortwo

1. Turn the Ignition switch to on.

2. Double tap the left button/switch before the wrench begins to flash.

3. Turn the ignition switch off.

4. Push and hold the left button/switch.

5. Start the engine while holding the left button/switch down.

6. Hold the left button/switch down and the wrench should reset.
