Do not ever lose your original keys for your 2008 SMART Passion like I did. I tried to just order a key due to the fact that I was the original owner. Mercedes said that I would have to "drive" over to fill out paperwork at their facility to order a key. I explained to them that I run a business and did not have time to "drive" down to their facility 100 miles away. After several attempts, I finally got the right person who said "for $240 they could order me a key". So I did. Then they would not send me the key because it needed to be programmed at their facility. They said I had to figure out how to get the car there so they could reprogram it. Unfortunately, the car would not come out of park and would have to be drug out of my building. Again.... a few more calls they agreed to send me the flat key which will only allow you to take the car out of park. This did allow me to get it out of my building. It was then towed to the SMART Center. THEN I received a call two days later stating I needed an electrical control panel to be able to program the new key to the car which made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. This bill totalled $1,511.84. You would think Mercedes would have their electronics under a little bit better control so the customer doesn't fill regretful or so stupid for making their SMART purchase. I'm thinking they should rename this car to "DON'T LOSE YOUR KEYS!". Ok, SMART people, you have been warned.
