We picked our Smart up on Sunday after an unbelievable short wait of 9 weeks!. Anyway, when we were at the dealership I asked what changes are being made to the Smart in the 2009 model. Apparently the only changes being made are that the yellow & red colors are being retired. The current red is being reolaced by a darker red. Thats all. Nothing mechanical, apperance is the same, nothing being added. If you have yellow or red, take care of it as it will be a collecter item.

Man I guess that was a fluke....I have been on orphan list since April and I have high hopes at number (5) on the list now. But still waiting.

We put down our deposit on June 7th 2008. We were looking at an 18-24mth wait. I put my name on the orphan list three weeks ago, and picked it up last Sunday. The dealership was as amazed as we were. A lucky fluke I guess.

A couple of other changes-also adding "grey" metallic color, darker than the current silver.
Interior will have mesh pockets in the doors instead of the hard pvc/vinyl pockets on the '08. This is a return to the style on 450 fourtwo [MK 1]. The design red interior color will also be deepened and "purified" [my description] to be more red.
Big news is for other countries-the MHD [Micro Hybrid Drive i.e. start/stop function] will be standard on the 61 and 71 hp engines. Still no diesel for the US.
It appears that the standard alloys on the US passion's might become optional. The Smart Germany konfiguratur is showing a different spoked alloy as standard and our current alloy as optional.
