1788 miles, and the dreaded CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came on. Called Roadside Assistance, who arranged a tow for tomorrow AM from here (Springfield, IL) to the nearest Smart Center (Plaza Motors in Creve Coeur, MO---100 miles away). I'm distraught! Just thought I'd throw this out here. (No, it's not---or shouldn't be---the gas cap put on wrong or too loosely.) *sigh*

Rob, you're right. Drove the 100 miles home ~ 70 mph and no problems! Glad to know someone else was looking out for my baby.

On the way home Friday, I saw Goliath sitting outside plaza motors. I figure he was already fixed by the time I drove by. Let us know how things go.

Thanks, all. The Springfield tow-ers started bright 'n' early to Creve Coeur; PLAZA called me as soon as they got it; car was fixed by early afternoon; Jamie in Sales (which stays open until 8:00) got the key from Service (which closed at 5:00) so I could get the car tonight. Best of all, I have a good friend who had no problem driving me to PLAZA after work, and we made it there by 7:00. Apparently, some valve needed replacing (I think), and it's not an uncommon repair. Goliath and I are happily home. Now I've just got to find out from my friend who "shadowed" me all the way home if my wind-up key spins freely at 70 mph. :O)

Judy, you have my total sympathies! I hit an animal with mine and I was without it for almost three weeks while it sat at the dealer. I'm finally getting it tonight if I get there in time. I'm sure watching the car be towed away made you cry--I know I would tear up.

I'm sure it nothing much, but could it be that Goliath is having issues with the windup key? :-0 I'll keep my eyes open to see if a truck comes down with Goliath in tow (on in the bed of the truck). I work a couple blocks away from Plaza Motors. Good Luck!

Yeah, Mr Bad, I had the same experience with the TPMS after a temperature drop. I discovered the RESET button (well, via this blog) and that that was that.

I had to drive a bit to get to a pulling off place, and I tried at least 4 restarts, but that magic check engine light kept coming back on. We'll see, I guess.

Thanks, I appreciate it. You're right---I forgot to take a few deep breaths, and that always helps. Good karma right back atcha.

So sorry! Please keep us posted...my engine light was just the gas cap. They told me it was OK to drive it the 20 miles up to the dealership, and it hasn't come on since I had it checked out. Hope yours is just as easy to take care of. I've driven cross-country from Chicago to Arizona & back since then, and am at 8000 miles now with few other problems (except for a cracked windshield, but that was the rock that hit it...) Have a cup of tea, and breathe deep. Hopefully, it's just a little glitch...sending good karma your way.
