I was so excited when I got the call from the dealer telling me they had an orphan Passion Coupe I shouted into my phone "I WANT IT". I didn't even ask what color it was or what options it had on it all I knew was in a few hours I would finally have my Smart Car. As soon as I hung up the phone I called my husband and told him to take his lunch break (it was 10am) and tell the boss he was taking a long one. He came and got me about 30 minutes later and we went downtown Atlanta to the only dealer in GA where my new car waited.

I've never been so excited about a car. I had a Jeep Wrangler which was my dream car since I was a kid, and I was very upset when I sold it but when I got my Smart I was so happy I couldn't stop smiling. When I got back to the office that afternoon everyone thought I'd lost my mind (they all love their SUV's) but who's laughing at whom, know that gas is $4.00 a gallon.

The one thing that gets me is when I'm driving and people in the big trucks and SUV's think they just have to be in front of me because I'm so small. One guy a few weeks after I got The Bumble Bee cut me off just to get in front and he proceeded to turn into a gas station. As we drove by we honked the horn and waved as he was getting ready to fill up his pick up. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard, and the look on his face was priceless.

All you do to get on the "Orphan" list is call the Smart center and ask if they have one, if so just ask them to put you on it. If you are flexible like I was you will get it sooner I wanted a blue and silver but love the yellow. I also told them what price I didn't want to go over which kept them from calling every time a loaded one out of my price range came in.

Yes, how do you get on the "orphan" list? I put a reserve in January for a cabriolet - ain't heard a word since....saw my first on the streets of Athens AL just last week and nearly ran over the poor thing just trying to get closer to it! (well, maybe I am stretching the truth a bit, but it was SOOOOOO cute!

I want a red smart with black tridion. Reading the blog by Colleen made me smile; she kind sounded like me! I don't have my car yet; still a-waitin'.... Tried calling a couple times; the girls that I spoke to (2 different girls) were very nice but couldn't really tell me anything. (Sigh!) I just want my Smart Car like, yesterday!!!!

How do you get on the Orphan list? I live in Montgomery AL, and I think the nearest Smart dealership is in Atlanta. Please email me at ernierains@mindspring.com and let me know! Thanks!

Great story Colleen!!! They are wonderful vehicles. Wen I got the call for my orphan...I was jumping up and down....could not wait. 5 days later we picked it up and off we went!!!

I do notice that people in trucks/SUV's have to pass me for some reason.
I was filling up last week and a guy was next to me filling up his Ford 350. He asked questions about my SMART and laughed at it. He was able to ask 2 questions and I was done filliing up. He said 'just topping it off eh?' I couldn't resist telling him that I was on empty. He looked at the pump...it read $32 and he was still filling at 85.00. I smiled and left!
