A glorious first week with my new best friend!

By chance I stopped into the smart dealership in Bloomington, Minnesota to ask some questions and remind myself of what a great little car this is. The charming manager told me their 2008 demo model was available in a week's time! I could hardly wrap my head around my wait for this car going from 18 months to just a week! I thought it over and called the next day to say yes. It's the best quick decision I ever made. I've had my little smartie just over a week now and she's my automotive soulmate! I haven't really thought of a particular name but I do keep calling her Girlfriend!

The buying process took three hours. The folks at the smart center Bloomington were so happy for me and wanted to show me everything. I even got another test drive with a shifting lesson since I have never used a manual transmission. But it was finally done and I stepped outside wondering, could I really have this car? Is it really mine? Just as I was about to get in and drive away another shopper stopped me and quizzed me thoroughly about my choice. She, too, had been offered a demo model and was trying to make up her mind in a hurry. I think she was leaning towards a yes as well when we parted. I wish I knew!

I smiled the whole way home. I feel like I somehow managed to sneak a car off a ride at Disneyland or something! It's such quirky fun to drive yet has so many luxury features my Ford Ranger didn't have like heated seats! The last week here in Minnesota has featured some unusually cold days and the heated seats are divine. I was a little worried the heater would not be up to the task of keeping me warm here in the winter but I'm very pleased. It's doing as well or better than the heater in my old Ranger. I highly recommend the heated seats, though, to anyone in a cold climate.

I managed to scoop up a Passion with a red interior and red exterior just as I had wanted. I think the red inside will cheer up the long gloomy Minnesota winter. But my favorite part is the panoramic sunroof. I back out of the garage in the morning and am always surprised by the burst of light in the car and that happy feeling of openness.

I filled her up with gas for the first time this weekend and it was eleven bucks! But the best part was the excited driver of the Escalade who dashed over to tell me how cute my car is and asked me loads of questions. I gave her one of the brochures they gave me at the smart center. Then we went through the car wash and the young man running it pantomimed asking my permission to take a picture with his cell phone. I laughed and nodded yes and noticed he was actually doing a little videotaping! I might be on YouTube by now, who knows? I can see, though, that Girlfriend is the celebrity and I'm just the assistant driving her to her engagements.

No regrets, not one. Girlfriend and I are very happy! Go for it!

Congrats Julie Ann,
Sounds like you got a good deal with the the extended warranty being thrown in, in exchange for the miles and regardless of anything if you are happy that is all that matters!

I'm not sure what the earlier comment was meant to convey. I got exactly the model, color and features I wanted in my smart car and didn't have to wait. And was given an extended warranty in exchange for taking a car with 2,000 miles on it. I don't feel I was lied to or cheated in any way. My male relatives have applauded taking the demo because it would have to be in perfect working order. I'm very, very happy with my little car.

I formerly owned a Ford Ranger with a topper and find the visibility of the smart car about 1000% better! I was always afraid I was backing over a dog or a child because my rear visibility was almost nil. I feel like I'm very unlikely to run over and kill anyone with this car! An odd thing to be thankful for but there it is...

Congrats! and don't let anyone bring you down. I'm sure the dealer got their new 2009 demo model so the little 2008 orphan demo had to go to someone. Anyway... heated seats in Texas, ick. I have cloth seats that are now covered with Wet Okole seat covers and I LOVE 'em! No mess, easy clean up, and they stay a moderate temperature all the time. Have fun!

I LOVE MY SMARTIE AS THEY ARE CALLED IN ITALY. SAW IT THERE MANY YEARS AGO AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE STYLE. SOME VERY NICE YOUNG MEN LET ME DRIVE IT AROUND ROME FOR AN HOUR. I DO HAVE ONE PROBLEM WITH IT THE REAR VIEW IS CONSTRICTIVE AND DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT BECAUSE OF THE SEAT HEIGHT. ALSO THE REAR SIDE IS ALSO NOT APPLICABLE FOR VIEWING. I FEEL THEY NEED TO COME UP WITH LITTLE WINDOWS LIKE THE OLD T BIRDS ON THE 66, SO VISIBILITY IS BETTER. OTHER THAN THAT IT IS A GREAT VEHICLE.

I hate when this happens. They told you your new one was w-a-a-a-y down the list, but you COULD buy the demo (probably for little or no discount) "right now"!

Yet, they replaced the demo with another new car.

Always keep in mind - the car may be different, but the damn dealers aren't!

Julie... I know exactally how you feel. After waiting a little over 5 months, I bought an orphan. I named her Annie. She too is a Passion and has heated seats. There's not been one day so far that I haven't enjoyed them. As for driving her..... I enjoy every minute of it. When I open my garage door and see her big smile she makes me happy. I adopted her Nov 17th, 1st fillup was Nov 23rd. I use Shell Premium. 1.96 gal... Took 7.5 gals ($14.??) How awsome is that ? 37.453 mpg on the 1st tank.

I recommend heated seats for ANY climate. I've used mine when my back was tired and hurting after a long day at my desk. In hot weather, I just crank up the AC!!!
