Completed my first tank of gas, and my first sales pitch

It only took my 5 days to burn through the first tank in my smart car. However, that was a lot of driving through the freeway system in and around Phoenix, AZ. First tank results = 42.3 mpg. I'll take it. Beat by more than twice what my other daily driver was doing. I purchased Gas Cubby for my iPhone, so I'll have a really solid accounting of mileage, etc, etc.

Yesterday I took it down to Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale to scoop up some after Christmas goodies. Once parked in the deck, I couldn't get out of the vehicle before a nice elderly couple came by and asked questions. I gave them the supplied literature from the smart Dealer in Chandler, and spent about 15 minutes talking about the car, showing them under the hood (not much to show), etc. Often people ask me how comfortable my smart is, probably because I'm 6'4", and when exiting the car may summon flashbacks from a Ringling Brothers clown car entrance. Hopefully I don't look too much like a clown, but it is odd to see a tall guy emerge from any small car. Last weekend, my son (6'5") and I took it for a brief trip. Didn't really stop anywhere, but I'm sure we would turn heads.

Very fun car, almost makes me want to drive to work everyday.

just to add to the above, I put in tank #2, and got 41.8 mpg, running 91 octane from Safeway (grocery store here that gives discounts for gas purchases). I also have been driving exclusively with the paddle shifters, and while I'm not a "hard" driver, I'm certainly not consciously trying to shift under 3K RPMs and get the most mpg out of a tank.

Congrats & welcome to the club! I drove from Chicago to Mayer (near Prescott) last summer to help with my parents. (I highly recommend a drive up to Flagstaff to get some of their Prickly Pear Vodka--just be sure to loosen the seal before changing altitude.)

The smartie is fun to drive, and I always get questions or comments--still--and I've had mine since last Feb. (some of my favorite comments & questions are on my page--including getting questions from the local sheriff...)

Have fun with it.

"ALMOST" makes you want to drive it to work every day????

I'm out of work right now but will come up with ANY reason to drive Zip.
I'm considering an outside sales job just so I can drive him more.....
He just turned 3000 miles and I still can't get enough.
