As far as I know it, I am the highest mileage smart car in Michigan. I can honestly say, I have taken my car to the dealership for the maintenance. All the items the dealer check for me were needing replacement.

One thing I can say was after the maintanence, my smart car perform like the first day I got it. The cost for the dealership to do the work was very reasonable to me. The service was excellent.

You asked how did I get all those miles? Well, I travel over 132 miles to work roundtrip. I can tell you I average about 38 to 39 miles to the gallon . The most I have gotten on a single tank was 340 miles (approx 42 mpg heck yeah!!!). [I am still trying to beat the record on the internet for 350 miles on a single tank] I can tell you I do not see a difference in fuel economy if I am using the manual only or automatic only. The fuel economy only drops off if you are cruising higher than 77 miles per hour. My average cruising speed is 72 between 80 mpg on the highway. You can say I have a leadfoot.

I try not to fill my tank unless I achieve 300 miles on my trip odometer...

The smart car has been a wonderful commuter car for me and I would like to hear from others experience. I am curious of the avg mpg and most you have travel on a single tank. Plus, tell me how many miles you driven your smart car.

Keep on driving...

I'm so jealous - my car is "on the boat" still (hopefully) ! Currently, I'm driving around a junker that's getting about 10 mpg so I can tell you I'm anxious to get even 30 mpg!! Have fun and I'll post as soon as my car comes in and I can start driving it !!!

The smart handles great on the highway. No problems. And thanks to all for the mpg input. So far my mpg has ranged from about 36 -45. No complaints. Most of my driving is around town, short trips, and AC on a lot of the time. (Florida!)

Hello All, I was able to purchase "Sophie" at the end of Jan.. She was an "Orphan". I have 4900 miles on her. She is great! People made fun of me for wanting a Smart but now I am laughing all the way to the gas station!

I bought mine April 4, 2008 and now have just over 10,000 miles...I plan on having at least 50k at the 1 year anniversary for the car and be the first to 200k miles (since they told me it was rated to 200k miles and I took my last 2 cars over the milestone

Keep on trucking everyone! I've got 8K miles on my Spec. I'm averaging 39-42 mpg at 75 mph. Any speeds over 65 greatly reduce mpg's. Going across North Dakota with a 40 mph tailwind gave me 57 mpg's...but coming back dropped the mpg's to 35. These cars are the bomb! It's a nice feeling to make people smile. Everyone know's it: when people see the car, they just can't help but smile.

I should say "tanks" we topped it off half way. ;)

I'm just over 4,000 miles on mine. I do most my miles on the highway at 70 to 80 mph. I fill up at Costco (premium) and usually get 40-42 mpg. I've had 2 tanks that were around 38mpg and I can't work out what was different! I'm also a late filler-upperer - usually over 300 miles per tank. I got 342 once, gotta try for 350!

Our first tank from the dealership to home (430 miles) we got 41 mpg. Tank two was easy driving on mountain roads (300+) miles at 47mpg! We are just under 1,000 miles and find it a joy to drive. We had concerns about the size on the highways, but it handles well, does not get pushed around by wind or semi trucks and climbs hills with ease. What a lovely car :)

Klaatuu was getting a consistent 42 mpg . . . then we took him to Jackson and drove 85 mph with the air conditioning on - oops 35 mpg.

I have brought some high premium 105 octane and I did not see a huge increase in fuel economy. Plus, I have tried additives and found no sucess.

But looking at what Sturat said, I will look at Shell to see if the gas is better for my smart.

Great discussion...
