I spent an extra $800.00 and had mine with the shield over the yellow paint. It is so much easier to clean and the bugs come right off. We have what they call love bugs in Miss. and they are awful. They will ruin the paint if they are kept on the car. I think the $800.00 was worth it.

I have the (Clear Bra) installed on mine. Personally I will never buy a new car with out this added item. I had a week in September that I think every grasshopper in Wyoming was sunning them selves on the road. I took the Smart to a car wash and after applying a soak for about 20 seconds the critters came right off . I took my wife's car to the same car wash and applied the soak. Did not help and I spent about a hour getting the bodies from the front of her car. I am extremely pleased with this addition to the car. The name brand of the dealer addition that I had done is (Clear Bra). have a great day.

Personally I think paint shields are a waste of time. I Mean for $1500 you can get all brand new panels for your smartie. Why would you "protect" the paint when you can just get new panels for the car.

Thats my 2 cents.

My wife has it on her blue/silver smart.
When I get my white/black passion, I don't plan on getting one.
I pretty much beat up my cars, when the time comes to trade, if the damage is bad, I will knock some $$ off my asking price and tell them to order new panels.
Best Regards,
Nu

I can add a little information about what I saw at the dealer. It is another one of those dealer add-ons that they try to get extra bucks. It looked pretty good to me. I could barely see the edges and it wraps around pretty far on the sides. I was told that it is really for the metallic painted vehicles. The solid colored ones have the pigment all the way through the body panels and is uniform in color. The metallic is only so deep, generally on the surface. If you were to take a rock chip, the scar would show up rather well. I am awaiting a metallic silver Brabus and plan on getting it just for that reason. Also the roads up here in Michigan are terrible from the winter snows, salting and freezing. That leaves loads of debris for tractor/trailers to fling at you at will. Here in Michigan they allow one of the highest load weights around. The trailers sometimes have as many as 40 wheels. That's right 40 wheels. A lot of rubber to beat up the highways. And that is my take on the whole thing.
