I filled up the tank on the Smart car for the first time June 18th. I thought it appropriate to post some stats.

I'd had the car for exactly 1 week before the last "gallon" dropped off the meter.

I'd put 290 miles on it by the time I rolled into the gas station.

I pumped 7.7 gallons into the 8 gallon tank, at a cost of $4.61 per gallon.

So I'm averaging about 37.6 mpg in the car so far, and about $35.50 a week in gas.

Compare that to the 18 mpg I was getting in the Audi and about $60.00 a week in gas I was spending to fill it up. Definitely happy with the difference!

still, the economy of the engine is over hyped and having a lead foot is a bad thing.

Expect that mileage to imrpove over time - I am getting 40+ now. The tank holds about 8.7 gallons although I usually fill up around 1/2 a tank so there is little chance of the fuel pump overheating. Here is a great site to track your gas log and mileage: MyCarProjects

That's great, Heather, but you should be getting better mileage than that. I bought mine in March and my 1st tank averaged almost 50 mpg. I now have over 8,000 miles and I get about 43 to 45 to a gallon depending on whether I'm in the city of on the interstate. You may want to check that you aren't having an issue. Good luck, and congrats on the new Smart Car!
