Over on msn.com there is a post asking people to name the worst cars in the last 25 years. The Smart is getting trashed unfairly. I'm defending the little guy, but I could use some help. Let's gang up on them.

Small=Unsafe Big=Safe Ignorance=Brilliant. I drove a Yaris for a year before I got my smart. I was never asked if I felt safe. It has 3 1/2 more feet of sheet metal, indifferant handling, marginal brakes, no safety cage, and no stability management. People don't buy Suburbans because they are good drivers. I have always driven defensively regardless of what I was driving. I still do. Gotta go- have to check for terrorists hiding under my bed.

mr bad example,
The sticker on the door frame of my Brabus has a weight of 2315 lbs. Where did you get 1808?

Just one little comment: Life is terminal. Safety is relative ...

I can't believe I survived m y childhood and youth. The smart is leaps and bounds beyond that in safety. One car that actually feels unsafe to me to drive is my in-laws Chevy Pickup Truck (recent model, 1950s technology, the brakes don't stop worth a dime) ...

Most people on public forum bad-mouthing the fortwo had never even driven one. I believe their fear/ discontent with the fortwo is probably based on xenophobia or lack of education. Any car can be a safe car as long as the driver drive safely and defensively!

George: Is your wife aware of the fact that your upcoming Smart only weighs about 800 pounds less than your Z06? It may be small... but the Smart weighs a bit over a ton... roughly 2,3xx pounds. It actually has a weight comparable to most other cars that you'd typically see driving down the road. the only difference is that the Smart probably has a lot more steel to protect the occupants based on it's small size. and as you can see from the pictures of the bare Tridion safety cell.... there's a LOT of steel protecting ya.

And i bet you're anxious to get your Brabus. I know i was.... but i'm SOOO glad i have my silver Brabus. Only thing that sucks is i couldn't get the vanity plate i wanted.

OK!!!!!!!!!! I am sick and tired of the Smart getting all the "safe remarks" from whoever! Either the Highway Institute, Ins. Co.'s, car magazines, to local newspapers. So I ask, what if a person is hit by whatever and is riding a motorcycle???????? Haven't heard that in a while. How's come motorcycle ins. rates are not through the roof? But when a small car hits our roads, it is dissected as a DEATH TRAP!!! AS for me, I drive with common sense!! Not all of us inthe world are in the market for a car that will hurt us, claim some $$, and buy whatever. JUst my opinion.... Just thought od this--I would like to know what the people crashing/testing the Smart drive... HMMMMMMMMMM Maybe a Smart??

My black Brabus coupe should be here before the end of the month. I am really excited, but my wife hates the idea. She even has refused to ride in it, won't even sit in it when it is parked. She is a registered nurse and is "convinced" that it is a death trap on wheels. We have four other cars, and two of them she refuses to ride in. She will ride in my Corvette Z06, but not my street rod or three wheel Morgan replica. I don't care if she hates the Smart or not. It is my money and I am getting it and will enjoy it to no end. I will go to MSN and voice my opinion. George

good job Monty. I'm glad you went there too! I just finished my first long tip (1,500 miles) and the smart made it a wonderful adventure. Not only the fun of driving it but also had a blast talking to lots of people and even averaged over 50 mpg on one leg. The more I drive Mitts the more I like him. Today after hearing someone say 'there were no parking spaces left' at work I slipped into a spot that had a Pod container covering 1/3 of it :) Clearly people who trash it don't own one let alone have ever driven one. Thanks again!

I think I did a pretty good job. I referred people to safeandsmart.com and was able to respond with facts to every slam. No one would respond directly to my replies. I think I know why. People who lash out at the smart usually know nothing at all about it. So, considering that I was able to clear up some misconceptions, I am glad I went there.

Tell the whiners that they are too afraid to die and too afraid to live...There is more to life than a frontal offset crash with a semi truck...
