Problems with security system and dome light

I was wondering if any of you have had any problems with the security system in their smart? Today I locked my smart and when I came out to unlock it, my key fob would not unlock. It acts like the battery is dead in the key fob and I had to manually unlock the door (and of course the alarm system goes off!) and I had to actually start the smart to get the alarm to go off. I do not know how to stop the alarm system. I also noticed there is no way to lock the door without the alarm system. The passenger door locks, but not the driver side. I also noticed the dome light stays on all the time. I have to manually turn it on or off if I want to use it. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate you sharing. I am taking my little smart back to the dealer to have her checked out first thing in the morning. Don't know if she is sick or not. I have only had her 1 month on the 29th of May. Let me know your thoughts.

Well, I have an update on the security system and not being able to unlock the car. It was my key fob. It shorted out. I had no idea a key fob could short out, but mine did. The dealership has ordered me a new one. It's under warranty, so it did not cost me anything, but my time. Also, about the dome light. I guess I'm not user friendly, because my light worked, I was the one who didn't know how to make it work. duh! As far as the security system and how to turn it off when it goes on...I did do that right. You just put the key in and start the car and it will quit. That's how it's made. Interesting little car. I just love it and everything about it - good or different. :) Thanks for the input.

My alarm went off and I had to do the same thing, start the car for it to go off. Very weird!

Hi. I have had trouble opening the back tailgate in heavy rain. I had to wait until it dried out to access the back of the car from the outside. As to the dome light, it is a three way switch. One is all the way off, one is all the way on, and the third is on when the door opens and then gradually goes off in about a minute after the doors are all closed. You may have the switch in the wrong position. Good luck with the key situation. Post it when you have some answers, as it may help someone else in the future. This is a perfect forum to post problems as well as good stuff.
