Help! Does anyone know how to solve the following problem with my smart car? I have put new wheels and tires on the car, the problem is that the front wheels are 17" and with the tire dimension it is an overall width of 20", the back wheels and tires are 18" and overall 22", the rotation pf the tires when driven is off due to the difference in size, which is causing the computer in the car to go into "limp" mode. Does anyone know what it would take to synchronize the tires or correct the problem?

pretty sure the ESP would prevent even the front tires from losing traction.

bad example's right. If you look at a Brabus, the rear wheels appear quite a bit larger, but use low profile tires. the front wheels are smaller, but the tires have a much greater height.

is there a tech that knows what the computer will allow for max. height difference between front & rear tires.

SATO happens to be correct; same thing happened when I switched to winter tires - diameter of one set was enough off from factory tires to throw the computer into limp mode. No reprogramming fix; will take a change to one set of tires to get them into tolerance for the computer. Don't know where you bought the tires but they should have known about this issue. Yeah, you can pull fuse 11 but in the process defeat all the smart's safety features - bad trade off IMHO. Best of luck with this.

what makes sato think he is so smart maybe more of a smart ass. anyway check with the dealership other people have had the same problem the computer can be reprogrammed and it only takes a few mins. sorry for sato's rudeness. most people on this site are not as rude as he is
