Yesterday I took my little car in for service. I had a few small issues, nothing extreme. My tire light wouldn't go off for a few days; the parking brake, which I had replaced a few months ago, wasn't holding the car, and was discovered to need adjustment; often I remove the key and it beeps a warning, even though lights and wipers and such are off; and on occasion, it bucks like a little bronco, for no reason. They fixed the brake and tire pressure, and noted the beeping problem, which smart says has been reported, and they're working on, but have no idea the cause. As for the bucking, one of the technicians, Bobby, went out and drove around with me for about 20 minutes, trying to see if the bucking would happen. Of course it didn't, just like a kid at the doctor. But I was impressed with the dedication of the staff. Then Jim Osbourne, my contact any time I need service, took it for a wash and vacuum, and I had it back in 15 minutes.

I am lucky to have this smart center just 15 minutes from my house, where everyone is so friendly and helpful.

I have the dripping problem in my car also... I live in SW Florida and its rainy season, so it basically drips every time I open it, and will get on anything I have in that corner. I'm planning on at some point taking it in to get it fixed, because its ruining my interior.

Hi judi, I live in St. Augustine , fl. I have had that beeping problem and found if I let the car idle down and let it settle for a minute before I turn it off it doesn't happen. Sometimes I think I turn the car off to fast and that is when i get the beeping. I love my Smart and have had it just over a year now.

Karl, I have never needed a loaner, so I don't really know. I have taken my car in 4 times, and each time been able to wait or have my husband drop me off at work and take me to pick up my car. Good question, though. I will try to find out. Also, I have never noticed a problem with the hatch after heavy rain.

Linda, thanks for the friend invite - nice to meet you ;-) I'm in DC metro. If I get an answer from smart, I will certainly post the cause of the beeping.

My smart, a 2008 model, says Daimler Chrysler on the frame label inside the driver's door.

I don't think there is any relationship between Diamler and Chrysler anymore - except for a bunch of lawsuits that keep dragging on. I have a smart that has the a Diamler Chrysler label on the frame, but I think only cars manufactured in November 2007 have that label.

Does anybody know the connection of the smart car to Diamler Chrysler? Shouldn't they be authorized to service smart cars?

judi - where do you live - i'm in south central idaho and the nearest Smart dealer is south of Salt Lake City. I've on occasion too, had the beeping problem. sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. if you get an answer let me know

You are very lucky. I need to travel about 30 min. for my dealer in Englewood, NJ. Surprisingly they only have one loaner car for servicing (guess only for waranty work) because they don't provide a loaner for oil changes (A or B Service). Is that also true for you at your dealer?
By the way, have you had problems with water retention in your rear hatch/liftgate when it rains (esp. after a thunderstorm)? After a rain storm when I lift the rear hatch water drains down the rear driver's side of the car, but not completely. It takes several opening & closings of the hatch just to remove most of the retained water. Even after that, it would take a few more days of dry weather to dry completely. The water that drips out is sometimes brownish in color, probably suggestive of rust. All this began the day my new car was delivered during a rainstorm. What has been your experience?
