I know there are others out there that have the same problem that I have. You come to a stop light that is red and you wait, and you wait AND YOU WAIT. And the light does not turn green. I have been to the local police department 3 times now and still when I come to the one red light, I WAIT. Finally I will make a u-turn and go down to the next light and have no problem. But that one light just will not turn green.
I have come upon a product that I have been told would work and I will share their web page with you. You can pull up the information and determine if it is for you. The web page thelightknight.com ... Pull it up, read it and let me know what you think. The product is for motorcycles but I have been told it should work on Smart cars. Well anyway, I do have one coming and when it arrives I will attach it to the car and head right to the red light that won't turn and I will let you know what happens.

The product for the most part is working but there is still the one light that will not turn green. I have been back to the police department and have filed a complaint on a malfuntioning light. And the beat go's on & on & on. Will keep you informed

none at all. they're the only type of sensor i really see around here. don't think i've ever seen a small one like what you described. Don't see why they don't use the pressure plates most everywhere. think it'd be a more wise idea than some kind of sensor.

Ryan- If it's a big plate it is probably based upon pressure- the smart should trigger it. Have you had any problems with this type of sensor?

Yea...... and risk one seriously HUGE fine if a cop happens to pull you over and notices it.

The only alternative for Prius owners is to steal a green light activator off a firetruck???

Jim: Not sure exactly where you live.... but every light i've seen around my area that seems to have some kind of sensor in the pavement, has one LARGE rectangular/square cutout spanning almost the entire lane width. Pretty sure that's a different method of light triggering than a 2' hexagon

I have talked to the police and they will issue a ticket. They sometimes sit a look for people to run it. They do know about the light.

Wally- It doesn't hate you- street sensors can't "hate"- It's only playing with your mind, trying to make you crazy, sending you over the edge! Just flip it the bird and run the red light- Go! go! Go!

Try side to side. I've got one of these I need to trip on my way to work and sliding all the way to the right side of the lane seems to trip the sensor for me.
