I got rear ended in my Smart on the freeway on Friday. Traffic was slowing down; I took my foot off the gas pedal, looked in the rear view mirror and saw the Toyota Sienna also slowed down behind me. All of a sudden the van behind me accelerated and hit me at 40 - 50 mph; driver behind me must have stepped on the wrong pedal. I am 38 weeks pregnant, and thanks to the safety features in the car, I was okay. I walked out of the car okay, just bruised lip, and minor neck pains. I love this wonderful little car. Taking the car to the dealer's collision center on Monday to get it inspected. I posted a picture of the car's damage, looks very minor.

oh my ... i hope your well ... hope the baby wasnt pre term.. good luck with getting it fixed.
a lot of people tell me its a death trap but to be honest... im not a math person... but wouldnt the lightness of a smart be better in an accident so the energy would be displaced as the car is pushed away and not held back by weight?

Had something similar happen to my wife 23 yrs ago (not in a smart car). Be sure you leave the insurance claim open until your child is born and checked out. Don't accept a quick settlement, but I'm not an attorney, you should consult one.

Someone at work today actually told me to go buy a bigger car. Your right, a lot of people is sketical of the Smart's safety. I wouldn't have felt any safer in another car.
