How long have you waited to get your Smart? Unfortantely, I signed up in April and was told it may take up to six months. I'm still holding out hope that it won't be that long. I saw some people waitied over a year before taking delivery of their Smart.

I wonder why its taking so long for Smart cars to make it to the States. There are plenty of well established Mercedes dealership here and I would think that Mercedes would have no trouble running things smoothly. I haven't gotten a phone call yet from the local gm or sales rep on my vehicle.

Anyone have some words of wisdom or encouragement for someone waiting for their Smart to arrive?

I waited over a year, big deal! I'd rather wait for a sought after car that will hold some value than go to car lot and drive off with a car that everyone else can get just as easily. Have some patience people!!

i placed my reservation in January 2008 at smartcenter Boston. The car I ordered is due to arrive according to the DDE in December 2008-February 2009. In the meantime, I placed my name on the orphan list at the dealership, and continued to check in on availability of orphans. The lost my phone number, apparently tried to call "a few times", and I happened to check in one day and stumbled into Puck, a blue/black passion coupe...I drove home with Puck on April 29, 2008

I reserved 8/16/2007 and the DDE says December 2008, so 16 months for me if all continues to go well. Hang in there!

I live in San Antonio, Tx. I called my closest dealer to see where I was on their orphan list. I had gotten onto it several months back. Well guess what! There are no more orphans. They tell me that with the gas going up every day people come in and grab their little car. So I expect March-May '09 for mine...

Anthony - All the cars at the Bloomfield Hills (Michigan) lot are owned by reservationists. The policy of not putting 'out of towners' on the orphan list is to help them serve their market (which is Michigan and part of Ohio).

John - once you get a confirmation to finalize your order you will find out what the 2009 options are. Rumor has it that Yellow is being retired as a color and some changes are being made to red (less orange). I doubt there will be extreme changes such as engine types, body styles...but who knows. The current midel (451) is the 2nd generation, the older model (450) was almost 10 years old. In Europe they also have a miniHybrid (engine stops when you come to a stop for 19% gas mileage improvement), as well as turbo model and diesel. I doubt these will make it here soon. Smart also annunced a PHEV (electric) for fleets in the US in two years followed by a consumer version two years after that.

Where do you live? It has been a year since I ordered mine and did get a call for a July delivery. It will be over a years wait.

I reserved in June, 2007 and was orginally told the beginning of 2008. Since then it was moved out to Q4, 2008, but most recently it was pulled back into June 26-Sept 30. Hopefully they will hold to these dates. I am anxious to get it but now I wonder if I will actually get a 2008 or 2009 model and are there any differences. Does anyone know? I am located in Maryland and the sales are going thru a Mercedes dealer in Annapolis.

I'm in Maui. My reservation was March 2007. They replied to my email request a couple of months ago that Fall 2008 is the soonest to even get a timeframe. I guess they won't sell Smart until they have a dealership established within reasonable distance. We don't have a Mercedes dealership on Maui either. Patience is a virtue :-)

Be patient. I waited a year, but boy was it worth it. Now people are hanging out of their cars taking pictures of me on the highway. People driving 'Hummers' look the other way though.

Chris, I placed my reservation on Feb 22, 2008 and was told it would be a year. They told me recently that the wait list is now 20 months. I was in Michigan last month and was shocked to see some on the lot in Bloomfield. When I asked about them, I was told I lived out of the area and therefore could not buy one. I cannot get on the orpahn list either. They suggested I call my nearest dealer in Knoxville, TN (I live south of Nashville) and was told I was out of their area as well and could not be put on their orphan list. This is ridiculous. I am in no one's area, but still have my reservation. Go figure. Good luck, I was told my Smart would not arrive until next Feb (2009). I did see a few new Smart cars on Ebay. That may be faster. This company needs to be more in touch with their consumers. I have gotten very little contact from the company since they took my deposit.
