American Automobile Association just rated the smart car the worst car of the decade

 Noted problems by AAA:

"The worst driving car

It's intimating when you are driving the car and trying to pass a truck

Doesn't get good gas mileage

Transmission is doesn't shift right

For the money, you can buy a ford focus or a civic...

People aren't buying them and they're about done."

I don't agree with AAA

I've experienced no problems being intimated when passing a truck

Over the past 51,000+ miles, I've ageraged 45 mpg

Just when I got use to how the transmission shifted, I got the computer up-grade - it works fine, but remember it's not a true automatic transmission...I don't think that AAA gets it.....

The problem you run into with those who are flagerantly against the smart car are usualy men with real ego issues. I run into alot of them in OK seems they have been compleatly sold on the idea that you arnt a man unless you drive a realy big truck. While driving on the road they are the same type of person that just has to pass the smart and the speed on down the road like they own it I mean realy, are they so threatened by the smart that they resort to infitile actions and remarks to try and confince themselfs that they are a man. Ill say it loud you have to be a real man to drive a smart. They ego impared almost go insane when I say that. Anyway pay no mind to the poor reviews to drive one is to know one they will catch on rather or not they get good reviews the gas millage is enough to cary most in to the dealer.

Great video of AAA California and their 20 ED smarts! I think the guy representing AAA on that T.V. show had no idea his own company was leasing 20 smarts! ha ha ha ha ha ha - eat our dust. We will wave when he's sitting at the gas station! :)

I watched the Video/soundbite. Typical non news filler. The 'Anchorwoman' has to put her 2 cents in and you know she's clueless about the smart. Another video says the F150 is the best 'car' of the decade. shheesshh! Heck the smart has only been in the US for three years. Let's see what they say in 2021 when gas costs...who knows, but it wont be less than $4.00 a gal.

On top of the fact their roadside assistance is more expensive than others, this poor substitute of an automotive writer gives me another good reason for not renewing my membership...

This is the second writing I have seen (the other from a supposed expert on Yahoo) who said the mileage was mediocre to poor. I don't get it. smarts get better mileage than most hybrids and are still at the top of the list for combustion engines in the US?

Good thing I don't listen to these lame people for any of my purchase decisions!

Let's be careful out there,

Pops and Carlito

Why did AAA in So. Cal. lease 20 smart ED's for use by their insurance adjusters?  Again, it looks like an inexperienced journalist taking a brief drive and writing a quick article to meet their deadline.  I always explain to people that the smart is one vehicle you have to spend some time driving it to get your technique right.  Once you perfect your smart driving skills, it is nothing but fun.

AAA in California is using smart ED's. see page here AAA seems to say one thing and do another. Maybe they don't like Gas power.

Do you have a link to the article?  Sounds like the typical smart review - 5 minutes with the car and their mind's made up.
