I have had my Smart for 4 months and have 9,000 miles on it. Share some of your high mileage stories with me. How long will these little boogers run? If I change my own oil will I have warranty problems?

I was at 26,000 when I traded up to an 09 and would have had a lot more if I hadn't changed jobs. Ran into a guy at a gas station who had an old Canadian diesel with lots of miles on it. It really is a great car with a great engine.

We have 29,884 miles on our smart. I change the oil and filters using Napa products. Had the tires switched side to side keeping the rotation direction the same at 20,000 miles. I keep excellent records of all maintenance. All is well with the extended warranty.
We love the car.

The dealer will gladly sell you the filter you need. I have a shop in town that practically does mine for free because they love having the car there! The owner bought one for his daughter in college after I showed up!

shouldn't have any warranty issues just by changing the oil yourself. I think even most dealers recommend changing the oil at least once prior to the 10,000 mile checkup. First changed mine at 5,000 miles. Took it to the dealer for my 10,000 mile service i think back in January or something.... asked them not to change the oil cause i'd do that myself when the weather got warmer.
