Need help!!! I have til thursday to make up my mind on ext. warranties for the new car and I need some feedback on this. It is pretty high so did anyone buy it and do you feel we need it. It comes with a 2 year warranty but they are pushing for the extended ones. Anyone have to replace tires and rims? They have a tire and rim replacement for 5 years for $510 that I am thinking about doing.

I got the 5 year 100,000 mile haven,t had to use it but with MB labor charges and the cost of parts I feel better having it.

Look like som nice policies, too bad they do not list the price.

On the wheel/tire warranty. I figered that I can buy an complete set of wheels for for about $500, so why spend money for that....

We purchased the 5 year/100,000 mile extended (Platinum) warranty. It has a $100.00 deductable. It paid off for us as one exhaust valve burned and they replaced the cylinder head as well as the valve. Total cost to us for the repair was $248.00 as we had other service performed at the same time.

Here's the link to the warranty/service contract info: https://www.financingfortwo.com/smart/eng/misc/products.do

I don't see any requirement to sign up for the extended service plan at the time you buy the car.

Here's an article on the subject: http://www.edmunds.com/certified-cars/certified-pre-owned-vs-extend...

My understanding is you can add the extended "warranty" (actually a service contract) any time during the first 2 years you own the car - might want to pin the dealer down on this.  Be aware of what's not
covered by the service contract, what deductible applies and is it per
visit or what?  We've had 2 smarts and never needed any warranty work so
the service contracts don't appeal to us, but others have needed them -
you just never know.
