Rushlane recently reviewed the fortwo as a commuter vehicle.  The article states that due to the car’s fuel efficiency, compact design, and price it is an economical alternative to public transportation.  Do you use your smart as a commuter vehicle? How does it serve your needs?

Most of the time, our Smart is for commuting. I usually take 3 trips a week just North of Manhattan. There is a train that is very close to work, but difficult to get to from my home. The train would cost approximately $56 a week based on peak/off peak trip tickets and subway/bus fare. The train commute takes about 1.5 hours. For the Smart three days of commuting brakes down to $25 gas, $13 for tolls, $10 for parking, and about $3.50 for maintenance, for a total of $51.50. Not a big savings in a week but it can add up over time! The best advantages are the 40 minute commute (that's 50 minutes!), come and go on my schedule, the Smart goes anywhere, not just to work, and come on, driving a Smart is way more fun than sitting on a train!
