Those fold up cardboard window covers?

Those fold up cardboard window covers...Does everybody know what I'm talking about? It was a horrid 96* here today, and inside my car had to be 120*. The steering wheel was burning hot. I want to get some sort of shield to put up on the inside of the window, but wonder if the usual ones that other cars use would work in our smarts? Does anyone have one that works, or know of a special one just for smarts? It looks like it's going to be a nasty hot summer.

Being from Australia, we are experts in deflecting sun and heat from our cars. I purchase a rolled reflector from one of the smart sites and it fits/works great. Bit bulky to store in a small car though. I also have a sheepskin steering wheel cover which is great in summer and winter (don't need gloves).

I haven't been on the site for a while. I bought one off the Smart site that fits my front window nicely. The problem is that when rolled up it's kind of large and decreases storage space. It works well, however. Being Australian, I have a sheepskin steering wheel cover. Never hot or cold. Don't need gloves in winter.

Thanks everyone for the information! I looked on a couple of smart sites, and found nothing, so thanks especially for the links. Looking forward to not burning my hands on the hot steering wheel in the future :-)

You can order the sun visors through smart and they are made for the smart car and make a big difference when it comes to the heat.

Hi,
I have provided information for the sunshade. I purchased one and had it shipped. I love it. Very easy to use. Call Paul....very nice guy. He will send one out right away if he still has them in stock. Custom-tailored to perfectly fit your vehicle, these sunshades fill every corner of the windshield. Provides maximum protection from the sun's ultraviolet rays, preventing ugly dashboard cracks and fading. Highly reflective closed-cell foam lowers heat build-up by as much as 40°F. Even on sweltering days, you'll return to a cooler interior. Sunshades install in seconds and can be rolled up and secured with a sewn-in Velcro strap. The Panoramic Roof Heatshield remains installed and truly blocks out the heat from the sun. Mounts between the roof and the OEM roller blind , which remains useable. Quality made in USA. Either one is $29.99+ S&H. Please call Paul @ 512-592-4965

The smart car dealerships sell a special made one that fits perfect to our window. It's over $30 but it is worth every cent. It really does keep the car cooler!

Hi Judi, I got my sun screens at Wal-Mart, they are for a SUV, but fit the big window of the smart, I live in Louisiana and don't go anywhere without them. They are silver on the outside and black inside. Do a great job of shading ! I also had the windows tinted, the windshield is tinted four inches down, and the back glass done. That also helps with the heat.

Had the same problem. Solved it by getting one of the folding screens, but not folding it all the way out. Just enough to cover the glass area. Also make sure you get a tall one as the screen is tall. Happy with my result and hope it also works for you.
