Hi I recently had an inquiry about towing the Smart Car. We tow ours behind our Winnebago Via (26 ft motorhome) If you follow the instructions in the revised Smart Car manual, it is so easy. Make sure you go to a dealer that is familiar with Smart Cars for the installation. We have a Blue Ox towing system with the Patriot braking system. To be legal in all states and Canada, you DO have to have a breaking system. If you are ever in an accident, even if it was not your fault, you will be charged with a violation and a hot shot lawyer will rake you over the coals! I know the Smart is light but for your safety and the safety of others, do consider a supplemental system with a break away switch. Also as one person stated DO NOT bungee the steering wheel to the seat frame as the wheels need to turn and track behind the motor home. You will ruin who knows what if you do this. Also make sure you have a battery disconnect switch installed as you can ruin your ABS and ESP systems per Smart technicians. Take care and happy towing! Fran
