We have recently purchased a Class B van/motorhome (Pleasure Way) as we can keep it up at our Summer home in the White Mountains of Northern Arizona. We do not use our supplemental breaking system at this point as we have heard of too many dinghy breaks being ruined by a system that breaks in error. We have had no problems towing our Smart. I do not think that our Blue Ox tow bar will ever have a problem with our tow as the Smart is only 1850 lbs. and the tow bar is rated at at least 6,000 lbs. Our hitch on the van is rated at 10,000!! A bit of overkill but safety first. With yearly maintenance and visual checks the tow bar should last forever. Also the chains that are connected to the Smart, crossed under the tow bar should hold the Smart in case of a breakaway. We also have a back up monitor that we constantly watch for any problems. There is also a tow bar that will use inertia to stop the dinghy and that requires no electrical connections.
