We will be installing a Blue Ox towing system and the blue ox Patriot braking system. If I use a battery disconnect per the manual then I would need to install another 12volt outlet and have it connected directly to the battery so I can plug in the brake system.
Any suggestions and/or feedback would be appreciated. THANKS

We tow our Smart behind a Leisure Travel Serenity (Sprinter 3500) without supplemental brakes. 6,500 lb. tow bar with 8,000 lb. safety cables for an 1,800 lb. car--have to see it's shadow or use rear view camera to even know it's there.

To those who tow without an auxillary braking system....

What do you do about a break away situation?

We tow behind a 20' Road Trek. I have to keep checking to make sure the Smartie is still behind. No auxiliary brake system is necessary. Remember, the Smart only weighs about 1800 lbs.

We tow our smart car behind a 39 ft safari simba, no extra break, with no problems. Her weight dosnt legaly require the extrra break so we were told.

I tow my SmartCar everywhere and don't use a supplemental braking system. I have a 19' Road Trek. I don't even know it's back there.
