Well, now we get Ads from everyone, BUT smartusa!

The advertising budget for smartusa must be $0.00 as they only seem to allow everyone else to promote their products via the smart. Sears has elves driving around. Little Debbie is hawking cupcakes. and now the one that really frosts my butt...GM/Chevy is using a blue smart in a negative way to push thier 'May the best Car Win' promo. Well, I must agree with Sato smartusa has let only 'joke' ads run and now it is even harder to show the American public the merits of the first 'microcar' in the USA.

Like one lady at Smart Center Devon was saying...... can't really lose it in a parking lot. not THAT many Smart's around. I told her that's true.... but sometimes the size of the car works against you in that aspect, as well. not very many around, but can easily be hidden between two fuel chugging SUV's.

I think it's funny how they're attacking the Smart's EPA rated fuel mileage.... but completely ignoring the fact that a lot of people seem to get higher than 41mpg average combined, let alone just going by city vs. highway miles.

Thanks spicejax, watched the ad... I have two comments:
If I wanted a back seat, I wouldn't have bought a smart in the first place. All other smart owners (except Bob...) would likely agree.
I think most buyers out there hunting their next purchase will have decided early in the game whether they want a back seat or not.
I still prefer my + 4 miles to the gallon...

I am marketing for smartUSA by driving my smart and being visible with a smile. I am having a blast with it and absolutely adore it. Positive marketing is noticing that a car that is so few in number and not advertised on TV is so visible on the roads. Even after two years, people are paying attention -- even noticing the house with only one car and that car is a smart!

I had to do a little looking around to find the commercial. I finally found it on the GM website. If you look at a number of these misleading commercials you'll see that GM is burning bridges everywhere. I, for the most part, am a fan of GM but I don't like these commercials. Why would I spend more money for a very plain four seater that stands out like a grain of sand on a beach?

smartUSA is dumb like a fox! Rather than spending million on ads that will really appeal to a small segment of the car buying public, they are riding on the backs of larger companies with big ad budgets. Remember, smartUSA is a 'start-up.' Only three years old, or so, they have to be really careful on how they spend their money. Personally, I would prefer that they spend money on support infrastructure (training, spare parts, documentation) so that my cabrio can keep right on running along.

I think that folks that fall into the demographic which would find the smart attractive would be reminded of the car even if it was starring in a GM ad. The others couldn't care less.

I don't mind the elves and cupcakes - there's nothing derogatory in them, and Little Debbie's giving away a Smart as part of that promotion. Haven't seen the GM/Chevy spot. In what way is the GM/Chevy car "best"?

And look at it this way, out of all the small cars to choose to compare itself too, it chose the Smart, which has a tiny (no pun intended) market share. Somebody must be feeling the heat... and it's not Smart!)

It May be that Penske has decided now is not the time to spend their dollars on advertising when no one much is buying right now. Might be better to wait till a little more fertile time.

mind you I saw an add not too long ago on local tv for the smart and it referred you to the Orange park smart dealer. while exited to finally see some SMART publicity, it was the blandest ad you could have ever conceived... once again smartusa showing everyone to open their mind... with BORING ultra conservative commercials.

.... i have yet to see that ad. I watched two "May the Best Car Win" Chevy ads on Youtube.... and they seem to be mostly spanking Toyota.

Even so.... they harp on the Smart? We can harp on the Chevy Aveo. Worst crash/roof strength ratings in it's class, also compared to the Smart? uh huh...
